Annotated Games

One of the best ways to learn Arimaa is to study annotated games. The strongest games that have been discussed in the most detail are the team games we call 'the one vs the mob'. 'The mob' discusses the game on the forums and then votes on what move to play. 'the One' is a GM but plays alone.

Here is one such game that started in 2007, chessandgo being 'the one': 2007_oneVSmob

Another game started in 2009 with Fritzlein as 'the one': 2009_oneVSmob

'The Mob' has won both games, showing that collective consciousness is very powerful, and that even the play of a 4 times Arimma world champion is far from perfect.

"People who haven’t participated in a team strategy game like this have trouble understanding the dynamic that makes the Mob so powerful. It is easy to attribute strong team play to the domination of a few strong players, as Kasparov did during his match against the World Team in 1999. Kasparov couldn’t bring himself to believe in the power of the collective and therefore assumed that a couple of strong grandmasters were dictating to the hoi polloi. Kasparov was wrong; that was absolutely not what was happening in that game."[1] --Fritzlein

Another annotated game from 2005: Fritzlein vs. Omar, 2005 Postal Championship
